"So...What is it?"
Womxn Illuminated is a graduation project come to life. My time at West Chester University has been stuffed to the brim with amazing memories and race based hardship. Though I enjoyed my time at the school I found it can be very isolating being a womxn of color at a predominately white institution. I felt there weren’t a lot of people that looked like me in leadership positions and it felt odd to achieve. It felt like I was alone and stepping out of bounds by wanting something greater for myself. Womxn Illuminated stands as a platform for womxn of color like myself to find more representation, visibility, and leadership opportunities on and around West Chester University.
"Why do you spell it like that?"
WOMXN
We use the term "womxn" instead of women or woman to include transgender womxn, focus on womxn of color, and remove men from the equation. This website is here to celebrate the accomplishments of womxn of color and fight for more representation at West Chester University and beyond.
What We're About
Objectives
Womxn Illuminated will expand the level of visibility towards womxn of color at West Chester University by specifically showcasing their talents via the Spotlight section and the founder/ team section
Womxn Illuminated will increase the amount of womxn of color in leadership positions by 5-10 percent within the first year.
Womxn Illuminated will create a sustainable name for itself through living on West Chester University’s Women and Gender Equity Center website and through the selling of merchandise.
Womxn Illuminated will stand as a resource for womxn of color who unsure the current administration cannot or will not help with their issues
